Biometrics in simple terms is a technical term for biological measurement of biometric identifiers that are unique to everyone such as fingerprints, palm prints, facial features, eye retinas, DNA etc.

All Police Clearance Certificates and Record Expungements, as well as some Visa Applications and Background checks requires a candidate’s fingerprints in order to conduct an Afiswitch Criminal Illicit Activity Checks verification against the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

The Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) is a biometric identification method that uses digital imaging technology to obtain, store, and analyse fingerprint data.

This data is used for Criminal Clearance Certificates, ID verification and Fingerprint verification.

What does AFIS do?

Using Afiswitch we perform fingerprint clearances on behalf of the SA Police Service (SAPS) against the SAPS fingerprint database of all known convicted and/or case awaiting trial persons to determine the previous conviction and/or case awaiting trial status of an applicant relating to:

any pre-employment enquiry,
corporate enquiry,
statutory requirement,
application for a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) and
registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
Afiswitch services and solutions are available throughout South Africa.

How can we help?

Our friendly and experienced staff can come to your home, workplace or business in office hours or you can make an appointment with us.

Once we have captured your fingerprints electronically, using a MSO300 scanner, and after you complete the indemnity form as well as a provide us with a copy of your ID or Passport document; we then submit this online for verification to Afiswitch; the interface between the AFIS database and the public.

How does it work?

Our mobile units are available, by appointment, to go to your premises (business or personal) to capture candidate’s fingerprints. Govdocsmadesimple will then process the fingerprints on behalf of you or your company.
